Alimentation Couche-Tard quits Russia to protest Ukraine’s invasion

Alimentation Couche-Tard said that it is suspending operations in Russia with immediate effect in light of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Canadian convenience stores company has 38 stores across Russia where it is said to be winding down operations.

Alimentation Couche-Tard operates under its main brand Circle K in Russia and has a workforce of more than 320 people. Its Russian convenience stores are located in St. Petersburg, Pskov, and Murmansk.

Brian Hannasch — President and CEO of Alimentation Couche-Tard said: “We condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the huge human impact it is having for both Ukrainians and Russians.

“As such, we have made the decision to suspend operations. Couche-Tard has had stores in Russia for nearly three decades, and we are proud of our Russian team members and their dedicated service to local customers and communities.”
