Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm : MHI Vestas to supply 33 turbines
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has secured a contract from Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (AOW) to supply turbines for the 139MW Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm in Japan.
The Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm Project comprises the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms to be built in the Akita prefecture.
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will deliver a total of 33 V117-4.2 MW turbines which will be installed with fixed-bottom foundations at both sites. Installation of the wind turbines is expected to begin in 2022.
The contract also includes service and maintenance agreements for a maximum of 20 years.
The Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm Project, which is set to be Japan’s first large-scale commercial offshore wind project, is being developed by a consortium led by Marubeni Corporation.
Akita Offshore Wind Corporation is a special purpose company created by the consortium.

Of the total 33 turbines, 13 will be supplied for the Akita offshore wind farm and the remaining 20 for the Noshiro offshore wind farm. The combined output from the two wind farms is expected to meet the power requirements of nearly 130,000 homes.
Upon completion, the electric power output from the wind farms will be fed through both the Akita and Noshiro ports. The estimated output will be 55MW at the Akita Port and 84MW at the Noshiro Port.
